Like the mechanic sez, "We're workin' on it." I'd love to get into "Scout: Marauder." Right now, I'm weighing a few options concerning what to get into after the first Grimjack series. "Scout Maruader" is among them. Thanks for your interst! I'll keep you informed. Keep checking here at timothytruman.com or join the TT Artlist for immediate updates.

I recommend all readers here to hunt down the back issues of scout on ebay, they can be found rather inexpensively, and sooner than later they will become scarce. Once Scout Marauder returns, those books will go back into the vault... damn speculators

Both of them... wow. I had forgotten that they both lived. Coolness. I'm going to have to go back and re-read Scout: Warshaman. I do have to say that I really enjoyed both series, as well as the spin-offs. The evolution of Rosa alone was fascinating and frightening. I hope we can see what's going on with the other characters as well, from Beau La Duke (who'll probably be drinkin' it up) to Monday the Elimiator (who is a very scary man... just for the leopard pattern tights alone). Looking forward to seeing this stuff again. Glad you're able to bring back two of my favorite books... Scout and Grimjack!

Hi Tim, The site looks great. The new Grimjack series is fantastic. But Scout is my favorite and I am really excited about the prospect of a new series. I also made this figure: http://www.geocities.com/eyerunmayden/scoutfigure.html

I always get excited about the idea for more Scout because I first think that means more Emmanual. Once I remember the end of War Shaman, I get a bit depressed. But I still look forward to finding out about the lives of Victorio and Tahzey. I can't imagine what their world must be like.

Wasn't a Scout Wedding special of some sort released with a music album? If so, will Dynamic Forces be reprinting it?

Where can I find a complete list of all things Scout? I've only had the chance to read a few issues but I did thoroughly enjoy them. In addition to "GRIMJACK" trades I really enjoyed your work in GRATEFUL DEAD COMIX. Keep up the excellent work.

What an amazing find! The 2 "Scout" series, and the spin-offs, are easily my most loved comics. I was doing a web search on "Scout", just for giggles, and came across this site. Again, what a find. I've long wanted to see "Marauder" and "Blue Leader" printed, just in order to get more of a "Scout" fix. I'll be keeping my ear to the ground for more news of my favorite Apache.

That was a great interview, and it's good news that "Scout" is going to be reprinted. I only bought a few copies of "Scout" and "War Shaman" when they first came out. I really loved the art and the stories, but at the time didn't have lots of money to dspare, and other comic "habits" to feed. Then, about 1989 or so I was going back over my old comics and found those few "Scout" books and the quest was on. I went to ALL the comic shops in a 100 mile radius and found most of the issues I was missing, all except the first issues of "Swords of Texas" and "New America" and 1 or 2 "War Shamans". Then I got on-line around 1995 and one of the first things i did was a web search for the missing issues. I found Cat's site for back issues, and was finallly able to comlete my collection. Well, all except for the BW copy of "Scout 16" which I'll get in the reprint, just for giggles. I saw in your interview that you don't like to look at your earlier art, which I find odd. I understand that as an artist you're always trying to perfect your craft, but take it from me that I found the art (and story) really well done. Every once in a while there would be a problem in perspective (like Scout's SMLE being REALLY short) or something along those lines, but overall I found your art amazing. If you do decide to continue the Scout universe, I'll be right there for the ride.

I think your newer stuff is better but that doesnt mean the old stuff is bad. Not by a longshot. I have been buying all the Grimjack trades that have come out and they still stand up to anything else on the stands right now. Can't wait for the Scout reprints. Just don't recolor or otherwise molest the artwork like some other companies have done to other books. Are you going to do any new intro artwork like u did for Grimjack in the Scout trades?

The color in the original Scout series is pretty good in its own right. To me it was during Scout that Tim hit his first "peak" with his artwork. Then he hit another level with the art he did for DC comics but that was mostly with other people inking his work. Now on the recent Grimjack and Conan he has "peaked" to whole nother level. Id love to see Scout return. He did do a ton of work on Scout though, but I thought Grimjack would stay on the shelf and he came back real strong. Id like to at least see some Scout sketches or pin-ups in that collection. I actually have a pretty complete Scout collection, just need some original artwork if I can ever find any.

Hmmmmmm... We'll see what we can do. The Scout album isn't even on schedule as of yet, as far as I can tell. I guess Dynamic Forces has been pretty tied up with their Red Sonja book (which looks pretty durn good, if you've not seen it yet. Can't wait for the Frank Thorne reprints! I'm a fanboy all over again!). I know that Dynamic Forces had my old First Comics label-mate Howard Chaykin to do new pages for the Flagg book, so maybe they'll ask me to do the same. It would be much fun, that's for sure.

It's been a couple of months since the last word on the reprints. Anything new to tell us as to when DF is going to schedule them? I read the first 10 issues or so and was never able to track down back issues (due to a lack of good local comic shops). I'm dying to find out what happens. Thanks!

No real news to report, other than the fact that an option renewal with Dynamic Forces is ongoing. If the reprints happen, though, there will probably be at least 8 new pages of art and story. -TT

Mr Truman - Scout was definitely one of my favorite books in my younger days and i'm looking forward to getting the book from Dynamic Forces. i always told myself that, if i won the lottery, i'd get Scout reprinted in one of those fancy schmancy deluxe editions - i'm glad DF is doing it for me (no luck with lotto).

I stumbled across Scout (and the Spider, actually) one day back in 1991 in the Borders bookstore in Philadelphia, while perusing their graphic novels. I was about 13 at the time and had no real conception of independent comics. At the time, though, I didn't have the cash to pick up The Four Monsters or Mount Fire. Years later I ended up forgetting about the series. About three years ago, I suddenly remembered the series (I think as a result of a discussion in a copyright class) and decided to pick up two graphic novels (along with the three Spider books) on E-bay. Tim is absolutely right about the prices. Buy them NOW. You can get the GNs for about $4-10 a copy, and can often find entire collections of Scout and War Shaman comics for not much more than $15. I got the Swords of Texas miniseries two weeks ago for about $4. I also went over to my local comics shop the other day and picked up the Scout handbook, the New America miniseries, and two issues I was missing from the War Shaman run for about $2 a piece. Snap 'em up while you can. Oh, and pardon my ignorance, but what are Marauder and Blue Leader? I gather Marauder was a planned, but not published sequel to War Shaman?

Absolutely correct. Scout: Marauder and Scout: Blue Leader would be sequels to the original Scout and Scout: War Shaman. I hope I get time to do them someday! Marauder would be the story of Scout's sons, Tahzey and Victorio. The storyline for Blue Leader happens very, very far in the future. Welcome aboard, by the way! Always glad to have a new regular. Thanks for the welcome! :) Glad I managed to find this place. I've already signed up for the artlist. And I'll admit, I'm a sucker for the entire New America universe, so hopefully we'll get a chance to see new Scout material, or even material in the same continuity. Random question: was there ever a Monday the Eliminator book of its own? Or did Monday only appear as side stories in Scout issues to tie in with the main storyline?

I have been a huge fan of Scout for several years now.Hopefully one day marauder and Blue Leader will see the light of day.The only Scout I don't have is Scout's wedding which was only published with your Dixie Pistols album.Any chance that sory will ever be reprinted or if you know of anyone who has a copy of the album with the comic.I found one on ebay but they didn't have the comic included. it will be great to see your work on Conan and hopefully Scout in the near future. I'm not sure about HC's. DF isn't real good about keeping me informed about this stuff. I would think they'd do it, because Nick likes to do signed editions and stuff like that. There should be 2 or three volumes, I'd think.

There were...what...24 issues of Scout printed? It looks like the first volume is only the first seven issues (so basically, it'll be like the Four Monsters TPB released in the 90s, but with the new cover art, comments by John Ostrander, etc.). I'd guess then, that the second volume will be the Mount Fire story arc (which takes us up to Issue 14 I think). But this still leaves questions as to whether the remaining issues will be released in a single volume or two volumes. Also, any word on whether the Monday the Eliminator side stories in the original issues will be included in the TPBs? While the early issues with the Fashion in Action mini-stories didn't have anything to do with each other, given Monday's involvement in the plot of Scout, it'd seem kind of important to include the background info on him. Just curious. I plan on buying 'em anyway so I can keep my individual issues in better condition but still have the books to read.

Lessee here-- Scout was 24 issues. Scout:War Shaman was 16 issues, plus the Scout Handbook somewhere in between. So 41 issues total (not including the Swords of Texas and New America miniseries). I reckon that would make it about 6 or 7 graphic albums worth of stuff, at 7 issues each. Not saying that's how many will be done. Just saying that there's material enough for at least that many. I'd want to do the Monday backups, too, because there were plotlines in them that tied into the main story.
