timbo - luv the work you're puttin out - keep it stoked

was wondering how much influence previous artists have had on your work, and have you ever considered a "homage" project to honor some of the "greats" in illustrative history?

my ex-wife's uncle was Doug Wildey, and he told me that all artists are affected by others work and techniques; the trick is to change it just enough to make it look like your own! thanx for everything - peace

Thanks for the question. Indeed, an artist is the sum of his influences-- in my case, guys like Spain, Font, Steranko, Gulacy, Kubert, Corben, Wrightson, Kaluta, Glanzman, Kirby, Starlin, Jones, Caniff, Hugo Pratt, Frazetta, and, yes, Doug Wildey (particularly his work on the Johnny Quest TV show and Tarzan). I could go on and on with names-- these arte but a few of the folks whose work influenced my own in some way. There are also other influences that come into play, of course: for instance, many film and TV directors influenced my style and thinking, and even music lyrics have had an impact on my drawing and writing style.

All this is distilled through some fascinating filters: personal taste, personal background, personality, attention span and basic motor skills, to name but a few.

It all adds up to the primordial stew we call style.
